A little show with a lot of heart.
UNFOLDING
the musical
UNDFOLDING is a brand new musical, being workshopped in Cambridge with the support of Between the Bars theatre company and a host of talented friends. I wrote the book, lyrics and music. It marks my first ever attempt to write a musical and so far the experience has been magical; even winning the Stiles+Drewe song prize award in Dec 2024 for my song, 'It Starts Small'. I'm lucky to have an amazing team around me, helping me to bring this idea to life.
It takes a village...
I'm learning a lot as I go, creating my first ever musical, but I have a lovely team and amazing support as I do; not least of all Liz Townsend and Sam Kirby who join me as co-musical directors, helping to take my songs from being just me on a piano to so much more!
Between the Bars theatre company are producing the initial workshops and development in my home turf of Cambridgeshire.
And since Oct 2024 I have been a beneficiary of Mercury Creatives, a professional development programme for the cultural sector. As part of my engagement on this programme, I am currently undergoing 8 hours of mentoring support from Simon Hardwick. The Mercury Creatives programme is funded by Arts Council England, Essex County Council and Tendring District Council and is being delivered by the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.
I am also a proud Mercury Musical Developments member. What a phenomenal organisation!
SYNOPSIS:
Rose and Mark have been writing to each other since they were both 12 years old - but they've never met.
Now, about to turn forty, and stuck in limbo since her own father's suicide, Rose is convinced by her best friend to invite the now divorced Mark to meet. What's the best that could happen...?
The response to her invitation doesn't come from Mark, but from his daughter, and it will change everything Rose thought she knew about the man on the other side of thirty years of letters...and about herself.
UNFOLDING is an uplifting, ultimately hopeful story
about two people who realise that the pasts they've
shared in letters might just save them both now.
